What is WIA and how does
a person qualify for it?
WIA
is the "Workforce
Investment Act" Program.
There are several phases
of the program,
including free Self
Assisted and Informational
Core Services up to and
including Intensive
Services. There are
several programs (Youth,
Adult
and Dislocated Worker)
with different eligibility
guidelines. Income
eligibility is one of the
main ways to qualify for
the program, but not
the only way! Income
qualifications look at
your income for the past
six months and your family
size. Loosing your job
through no fault of
your own is a way to
qualify for the Dislocated
Worker Program. You can
read about the other ways
under the Dislocated
Worker Program by
clicking on the Program
Services Link and then
click on the Dislocated
Worker Program heading on
the right hand side of the
page. Call the
office nearest you for
more information about any
of the programs
Iowa@Work offers.

Do you pay for
schooling,
transportation and child
care expenses?
We
may assist with the cost
of schooling when an
individual is enrolled and
has completed Staff
Assisted Core Services.
There are certain criteria
that have to be met
with regard to paying for
school costs. You need to
speak to an
Employment and Training
Counselor in your area for
detailed
information.
Transportation and child
care expenses may be paid
either
directly or through
referrals and
partnerships. These help
persons
enrolled take part in
Intensive or Training
Programs. There are
guidelines that must be
followed for an individual
to qualify for these
payments and payment
guidelines have also been
established. You would
need to speak directly to
an Employment and Training
Counselor for
further details.
